8/13 Ding Junhui v 5/4 Judd Trump
4/6 John Higgins v 6/5 Mark Williams
So we are down to the final four, with the two semi-finals a real marathon test of the players ability. Each is the best of 31 frames, longer than the finals for the rest of the tournament circuit.
The first semi features Chinese player Ding Junhui, up against the Bristolian Judd Trump. Trump looks to be the potential sensation of the tournament, having beaten Graeme Dott in the last 8 with something to spare, while he begun the event by knocking out the defending champion Neil Robertson. Trump is also coming off a ranking tournament victory in the China Open and says he feels “a little invincible” at the moment. It’s been less of a breeze for Ding, who has had to come from behind for gritty wins against Mark Selby and Stuart Bingham. Trump has a great chance of going through here.
The second semi features two former champions with bags of experience and there is some history between the two in semi-finals, with Mark Williams beating Higgins on the way to the title. Higgins saw off Ronnie O’Sullivan 13-10 in his match to get here, while Williams had a less stressful passage through to the final with his 13-5 defeat of Mark Allen. Higgins has been playing some high quality snooker, amazingly so, since his return to the circuit and looks to have a slight edge here.
