1/10 Djokovic v 11/2 Tomic, 1/7 Federer v 9/2 Tsonga
1/12 Murray v 6/1 Lopez, 1/6 Nadal v 4/1 Fish
The odds above indicate that it should be Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Muray and Rafael Nadal, the top 4 ranked players in the world. It’s very difficult to argue a case for their opponents but we’ll see. Bernard Tomic has been a pleasure to watch, with his temperament in check. He has produced a different style of slices, taking the pace off the ball and showing a level of greater creativity. He has even beaten Djokovic before in an exhibition. Djokovic though, has disarmed Andy Murray, who is perhaps the closest parallel high up the rankings and has practised with Tomic. Neither holds any fears for the other, so Djokovic should really go through.
While Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s grass court game is good, and he beat Rafael Nadal at Queen’s it is difficult to see him mastering Roger Federer at this stage of a grand slam. Federer has won their two encounters this year comfortably, but with Tsonga in his good current form he could extend the match into four sets.
Andy Murray may find his mother’s admiring glances of opponent Feliciano Lopez among his main concerns. The Spanish serve volleyer is fairly notorious for tightening up on big occasions. Muray has also won all four of their encounters, dropping just one set last year in Los Angeles when he was back after an extended break.
Finally, despite the attacking style of Mardy Fish, we can only presume a further bout of foot related hypochondria will stop Rafael Nadal.
If you back Nadal, Djokovic, Federer and Murray as an accumulator you get less than 1/2. Seriously, settle back and enjoy!
