The Wimbledon Odds can’t split Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as favourites for this year’s men’s singles title.

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray lie in wait should they slip up, with the odds effectively dismissing anyone outside the top 4 as a serious contender.

WIMBLEDON PREVIEW MEN’S SINGLES

So can anyone lay a glove on the big 4?  There are one or two outside chances of the draw opening up, but on the whole its difficult to look past this being a four horse race. The top-half of the draw features Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Though he retained his French Open title, Nadal looked tired at Queen’s before his exit to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and he’s had his dominance challenged by Novak Djokovic this year. Nadal looks to have an easy path to Round 3, where he might well come up against Milos Raonic, the Canadian prodigy who can routinely hit 150mph serves. Juan Martin Del Potro and Tomas Berdych also sit in this quarter.

Muray has been given a gift of a first round in the out of form Daniel Gimeno-Traver, but Marin Cilic and Stanislas Wawrinka could prove tricky routes to the last eight, where he is likely to meet Andy Roddick or Gael Monfils. His dismissal of Roddick means he holds no fears. The question is whether or not Murray can keep his cool sufficiently to save as much energy as possible for the later stages.

In the bottom half of the draw, Roger Federer again has a fairly serene third quarter, with his old nemesis David Nalbandian a possible third round opponent. However, Nalbandian is too soon in a comeback from injury. Jo Wilfried-Tsonga, who did so well at Queen’s, should be able to take out David Ferrer.

The final quarter is Novak Djokovic’s – and he will face Kevin Anderson in the second round, a tall, awkward, big serving South African. But a basic flick through says the top 4 seeds will form the last four. Djokovic would play Federer, who got the best of him at the French Open. Neither have played since Roland Garros, and Djokovic has a genuine chance of a reversal here. Nadal looks flat, and there is a major chance of Murray turning him over.
