USPGA GOLF FINAL ROUND PREVIEW

While Nick Watney goes into this final round with a very handy three shot lead, there is one factor about to make a real impact at Whistling Straits – and that’s the breeze. Winds of 25mph are forecast for the final round, making scoring that much more difficult. It could mean some wild swings on the leaderboard to add to the tension of the final major of the year.

Watney has performed well in the majors this season with some 7th place finishes, but this is a new situation for him and he did drop a shot on the last hole. It’s going to be a tough mental test for everyone, especially with the two closing holes so brutally tough.

Rory McIlory also put in a good Open display, but he was never really in contention to land a blow on Louis Oozthuizen. He might handle the links golf style conditions better than some others. However, the man we like is Dustin Johnson. He’s a big hitter which suits this course and he had the lead going into the final round of the US Open. Johnson says he has learned a lot from that experience, and he knows not to go chasing scores too early and be over aggressive, which is going to be vital in the breeze. He’s a definite pick with at 5/1 with Boylesports.

Of the others further back Martin Kaymer might be a little over aggressive, while patience and major wins could help Zach Johnson and the gloriously strange swing of Jim Furyk to come into contention.

But Johnson, after his experience of this situation, should hold his nerve and claim his first major.
