It’s great to see Ana Ivanovic hitting some sort of form after her steep decline from the top of the rankings. The 2008 French Open champion is now ranked at 40, but has started to show some sort of fluency and her work with coach Heinz Gunhardt is perhaps working. She is swinging well and hitting winners and hasn’t dropped a set in her opening matches. Facing Kim Clijsters though is another level, with Clijsters extra speed likely to take her through. Clijsters might drop a set, but she should continue her progress.
Venus Williams has looked far from convincing in her run to the last 16, being pushed hard by Canadian qualifier Rebecca Marino in round two. Shahar Peer, seeded sixteen, is a solid and consistent player and can really push Williams here, though I can’t quite see her winning. This looks a nailed on three setter.
The bet of the day looks to be Elena Dementieva to beat Sam Stosur. The Russian has a good record against her Australian rival and the kind of returns to negate the French Open finalist’s big serve.
