In the men’s singles, the bottom half of the draw get busy, meaning the entrance of Roger Federer, who looks to have a very gentle introduction against Brian Dabul. Other top men’s seeds playing are Nikolay Davydenko (pictured) versus Michael Russell, Andy Roddick, who takes on Stephane Robert, Robin Soderling, Marin Cilic and Gael Monfils. Cilic might have a tricky time with Illya Marchenko, while Monfils faces Robert Kendrick, who always seems to lift himself for the slams.
Lleyton Hewiit, injured and struggling for form, has a match with Paul-Henri Mathieu, also out of form that he could struggle through. Thomaz Bellucci, seeded 26 and a clay courter, might have a trickt match against Tim Smyczek. But it looks plain sailing for most of the top seeds at odds that are very short. Our bet of the day is Ricardo Mello to beat Bjorn Phau, with Mello 8/13 with Betfred - they offer a free bet up to £50 for new customers. Mello is -170 with BetUS.Com
In the women’s event, Kim Clijsters gets the defence of her title underway against Greta Ahn of Hungary, while Venus Williams meets Roberta Vinci. Two intriguing matches see Daniela Hantuchova take on the former World Number One Dinara Safina. Ana Ivanovic also looks to rediscover her form against Ekaterina Makarova. Hantuchova is definitely in with a chance of taking out Safina, who is not the force of old. She’s 15/13 with BWin, who offer £30 in free bets to new customers – that is good value in a match that looks a coin toss.
