Published on September 2, 2010 by   ·   No Comments

The US Open betting is being re-shaped all the time as several seeds fall. Tomas Berdych and Andy Roddick were the latest big names to bow out, while Victoria Azarenka was bizarrely knocked out of the women’s in all senses after banging her head.

US OPEN TENNIS DAY 4 PREVIEW

Watching for trick shots should be the highlight of Roger Federer’s match with Andreas Beck. Anything other than a straight sets win for Federer against the out of form German would be a major surprise. Novak Djokovic might find life more difficult against Philipp Petzschner, especially after his difficult match againt Viktor Troicki, but the Serb ought to make it. Nikolay Davydenko versus Richard Gasquet should be an interesting contest. Davydenko has just about found his form in time, and ought to make it through in four sets.

On upset watch, keep an eye on Taylor Dent v Robin Soderling – Soderling suffered against the big serve of Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer in Round One, and Dent does have booming power. Two seeds are favourites to go out. Albert Montanes is rated the outs, ider against Carsten Ball, the Australian Wild Card, while Kevin Anderson, the big South African should be backed at  8/11 with Stan James to beat Brazillian clay courter Thomaz Bellucci. Marin Cilic could have a hard time againt Kei Nishikori.

The main women’s names playing today are top seed Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova and Jelena Jankovic. Wozniacki’s match looks straightforward, while Maria Sharapova is up against an experienced player in Iveta Benesova, The Russian glamour girl should be ok here. Benesova has experience, but perhaps not the power to trouble Sharapova.

Jankovic v Mirjana Lucic is a fascinating match. Lucic was a promising teenager beset by personal problems, but not short of talent. This could easily go to three sets, and it requires Jankovic to show a greater self confidence and more aggressive approach than in her first match.  A Jankovic three-set win is a sporting bet at 100/30 with Betfred – they offer a free £50 bet
