UK SNOOKER PREVIEW

It’s back to York for the snooker circuit as they compete for the game’s second most highly sought title. Barry Hearn has ruffled a few feathers by changing the format and the early rounds will now be best of 11 rather than the traditional 17. This should open the event up a bit and we can expect more upsets than in prior years.

Mark Selby is in form and the world number one will have his supporters. He faces a tricky opener against the talented Ryan Day. Latest sensation Judd Trump will be popular and takes on the wily Dominic Dale in his first round match. Both are fancied to do well but the top players are very evenly matched unless Ronnie has one of his purple patches and the betting reflects that open nature.

O’Sullivan has a high profile start with the evergreen Steve Davis, which will be sure to draw in the viewers. The Rocket should have too much for Steve though and although it depends which Ronnie shows up, he must be fancied at 6/1.

Another man reaching the veteran stage is Stephen Hendy, who had to qualify to get here. He faces fellow Scot Stephen MacGuire and will be keen to make a good showing in an event he was successful in so many times before.

Mark Williams continues his resurgence and will also have his followers. He’s a gritty, determined player who can pot them off the lampshades when it matters and he won’t be a pushover for anyone.

UK SNOOKER TIP

Ding Junhui doesn’t have the stiffest of opening matches nor does he in round 2, so at 12/1 with Paddy Power he is our selection. He is at the peak of his game and The Masters champion looks the pick of the prices. Use our link and you could claim a free bet of up to £50
