It’s been a troubled week for Liverpool, with Javier Masceranho’s unwillingness to play for the Reds in Monday’s defeat by Manchester City and plenty of other transfer travails. Maybe they’ll be better with a game to focus on?

TRAZBONSPOR v LIVERPOOL PREVIEW

Liverpool go into this game with a 1-0 lead from the home leg, where they rested some of their key players. They will try and do the same here with Steven Gerrard’s back playing up, Fernando Torres not deemed fit enough, Javier Mascherano sulking and Daniel Agger (concussed) all sitting this game out. The defeat by Manchester City put their problems into sharp relief, though Joe Cole does come back to add some depth to the squad. The weaknesses left by Rafael Benitez though, are quickly becoming apparent – a lack of wide players one factor for 4-4-2 loving Hodgson.

Hodgson also acknowledges the challenge of going into a hostile Turkish atmosphere. The Turkish Super Cup winners caused Liverpool the odd problem in the away leg, and must have a chance of at least scoring and levelling the tie. They have reasons to be hopeful under experienced coach Senol Gunes.
