TIGER WOODS OPEN GOLF ROUND ONE

Woods hit six birdies in his opening round, but tailed off a little at the end, including a bogey on the redesigned Road Hole, the 17th.

Tiger said: “It was a good start, calm this morning and guys were really taking this golf course apart. There was actually no wind.”

The opening day has been littered with low scores, including Rory McIlroy’s 63, which puts him at -9 and top of the leaderboard.

The World Number One seemed to have little trouble on the greens, with his new putter working well.

He said: “I made a lot of puts today – the greens are really slow. It (the ball) comes off a little quicker than my old putter”

And he added: “The people were fantastic – extremely respectful and enthusiastic.”
