SUNDERLAND v LIVERPOOL PREVIEW

Sunderland, who have been on a poor run, have reasons for optimism all of a sudden as they start to get some important players back from injury. The most notable of today’s returnees should be Lee Cattermole, who is an important part of midfielder (when he can stay on the pitch) and Nedem Onuoha. The Black Cats picked up a decent draw at Arsenal last week, where they cut out the worst of the defensive errors that manager Steve Bruce has been bemoaning some time. They have generally performed well at the Stadium of Light and given most of the top six sides a good game, most notably their win at Chelsea. Beach balls may not be required this time.

Liverpool were bemoaning a lack of creativity as they couldn’t get a goal against Braga. Daniel Agger should return to defence, but of course Steven Gerrard is still missing. It’ll also be interesting to see if Andy Carroll can keep his head when he takes on Sunderland, while Luis Suarez is back available after an enforced absence from the Europa League to add some extra dimension to the attack.
