4/9 Nikolay Davydenko v Albert Montanes 7/4
8/13 Gael Monfils v John Isner 5/4
5/6 Jarkko Nieminen v Ivan Ljubicic 10/11
4/6 Jo Wilfried Tsonga v Gilles Simon 6/5
This is a really good line up for an ATP 250 event. Top seed Nikolay Davydenko has found things a massive struggle this year, although he did avenge a defeat by Mischa Zverev in the last round. Montanes, though a clay courter, has adapted to the fast surface, pinging passing shots past Michael Llodra in the last round. Montanes is good for an upset here at 7/4 with Betfred
Gael Monfils then has to deal with the giant serve of John Isner, who has had two testing matches. Monfils can survive the bombardment here and he’ll be fresher after his bye to come through. He’s 8/13 with Betfred to progress.
Jarkko Nieminen has been showing the consistency of a top 20 player during this indoor end to the season, and is having a great resurgence. His match with Ivan Ljubicic is likely to be decided by the quality of the Croat’s serving. If Ljubicic is off, the Finn can punish him. A tight three setter looks inevitable.
While Tsonga v Simon is another very tight match. If Tsonga is back at 100% he should just edge through.
