Stoke’s gentle slide down the table has been put down to their Europa League travels, and they have had a fairly sadistic draw in that regard, with trips to Israel and the Ukraine. They’ve had no such problems this week, and it’ll be interesting to see if that corresponds with a win here, though beating Blackburn may not tell us that much.
Peter Crouch has a groin injury, while Matthew Etherington and Rory Delap are also struggling with back problems, which knocks the long throw and two significant attacking assets out of contention. It’s four losses in a row for Stoke, but one thing they do hold is a good record against Blackburn, with four victories in their last five outings. They do have some players coming back, which may be enough.
As for Rovers, well other than demanding Kean’s demise – see our editorial – they have shown some heart, but a consistent inability to defend, having not kept a clean sheet yet this season. They are also missing Chrstopher Samba for this game, which is clearly a problem against a team with the physical presence that Stoke offer.
They have shown some heart and had a little bit of bad luck – though that was turned on its head with the dodgy corner goal they got against Wigan. Keeping leads is another one of their failings, and we can see them succumbing to Stoke’s presence here.
