STOKE CITY v WEST BROMWICH ALBION PREVIEW

Stoke City go into this match in a healthy place. They are five points clear of the frenzied relegation zone, with this game in hand and they have a decent shot at making the FA Cup semi-finals and getting a day out at Wembley. Matthew Etherington is ruled out of this game after picking up an injury against Arsenal. They are coming off back to back league defeats, sandwiched in between a very comfortable dismissal of Brighton in the FA Cup. But they do look a side made to exploit West Bromwich Albion’s frailties, with their strength from set pieces and desire to get balls wide into the box through corners, free-kicks and throws.

West Brom did at least avoid defeat against Wolves in their first match under Roy Hodgson, but it may find it difficult to drill his ideas into about organisation and team shape into a team that was generally quite open under Roberto di Matteo. They turned out to be too open. Youssouf Mulumbu should return to the side, while Scott Carson is considered fit again, though he may be on the bench.
