Schalke: 23/10
Manchester United: 13/10
Draw: 9/4
With Manchester United en route to the Premier League title, most English fans seem to expect a not overly demanding semi-final with mid-table German side Schalke 04. United are likely to be without Dimitar Berbatov, but they have been able to do a little squad rotation and keep Nemanja Vidic fresh. Their away form has looked a little vulnerable lately, with a draw at Newcastle and losing on neutral ground in the FA Cup semi-final, but they have been dominant on the road in Europe this year, winning 10 out of 12 matches overseas, with a group stage win at Valencia perhaps the highlight. There is more swagger about them and Javier Hernandez seems to be in peak form.
Schalke have promised to attack, and they have an experienced European campaigner in Raul up front. The Germans lost at Kaiserslautern in their weekend game, but rested several players to ensure they are fresh. Their form in Europe is impressive, with nine games without defeat since a loss in the first match of the group stages, and they do appear to have been revived by the more even tempered Ralf Rangnick compared to hard man Felix Magath in charge. Their wins over Inter should not be lightly discounted.
This game has goals in. United should get the away goals they need to give them an edge in the tie and we fancy a 2-2 draw at generous odds of 14/1 with Betfred – use our link to back the draw and claim a free £50 bet!
