Both sides, are perhaps predictably, well under strength for this end of season encounter. Ireland are missing Anthony Stokes and Richard Dunne, but they do have lots of decent players involved. Shay Given is delighted to get some playing time, while Paul McShane and Keith Fahey are both likely to play. The strike parternship looks exciting with Robbie Keane paired with WBA’s Simon Cox, who has had an encouraging first season in the Premir League.
Northern Ireland are relying on some players from their domestic league, such as former Southampton goalkeeper Alan Blayney, but they do have two experienced players at the back in Craig Cathcart and Gareth McAuley, while Warren Feeney and Josh McQuoid are playing upfront, so there is a sprinkling of players at a decent level across the side. Sammy Clingan is in midfield. They would have to be seen as the weaker of the two squads but they won’t be short on hard work, team spirit, or motivation.
