RENNES v CELTIC PREVIEW

It’s not proving the best of times for Celtic, who are finding Rangers besting them so far domestically, while they are only in the Europa League thanks to Sion fielding ineligible players. They are also seriously light on attacking options for this trip, with Georgios Samaras, Kris Commons and Gary Hooper all not travelling to France. With 4 wins in their last 12, there are clear concerns, especially defensively, with Neil Lennon coming under some pressure. Badr El-Kaddouri can’t play in Europe, further reducing their defensive options. The record in Europe away is poor, and there is pressure after a point against Udinese and defeat by Atletico Madrid in what is not the easiest group.

Rennes have made a very solid start this year in the French League to follow up on Europa League qualification, having not lost at home so far this season, while they tend to be a free flowing, attacking side. Midfielder Yann M’Vila is their star man, but there are conflicting reports as to whether or not the French international will play, or be granted a rest. Victor Montano, a Colombian Jires Kembo-Ekoko and they offer pace and movement not always seen in the SPL.
