7/1 Luke Donald, 17/2 Lee Westwood, 14/1 Martin Kaymer, 16/1 Rory McIlory, 22/1 Graeme McDowell, Charl Schwartzel, 25/1 Justin Rose
Luke Donald’s been put in at a short price for this event, which is not really surprising given his consistency over recent weeks and in fact months. He has never finished outside the top ten in a European Tour event inside the past 10 months. Add that to a good record around Wentworth in recent years and you can see why he is rated as such a clear favourite. His rivals for the World Number One slot, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer are rated as his nearest rivals. Both of them though, look short enough on recent form and do have added pressure in that game of pass the parcel that is getting the world number one position.
With the course generally favouring those who can drive with accuracy on some narrow fairways. This makes Francesco Molinari an interesting proposition, as his record is getting better round the course, and his game should be suited. He also put in a decent performance in the World Matchplay, and so he has to make the shortlist.
Of other contenders, Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell both have poor records in this event and they don’t look too likely to change. The opposite can be said of twice winner Anders Hansen, who is always worth a look here.
A combination of recent form and a game that should suit Wentworth make Francesco Molinari @ 30/1 with Betfred worth an each-way investment. Use our link and you can claim a free £50 bet. Betfred are also paying out each-way the first six on this event.
