NEWCASTLE UNITED v SUNDERLAND PREVIEW

The Tyne-Wear derby is full of ill concealed loathing, but from a prediciton point of view it’s not the easiest to call. Newcastle have had a real mix of results this season in the Premier League, losing at home to Blackpool, but picking up a very useful win at West Ham. The midweek defeat by Arsenal in the Carling Cup is not of so much concern as several changes were made.  It’ll be intresting to see if either Andy Carroll or Lee Cattermole can keep their heads in such a charge atmosphere. You can argue Newcastle’s away performances have been more impressive than home ones, bar their rout of Aston Villa.

Sunderland have done great things at home, but again they remain limp on the road. There are signs of improvement though, and Jordan Henderson, Cattermole and Steed Malbranque might be crucial. If they can get on top of Joey Barton and the Newcastle midfield they will have a platform from which they can win the game. They also have fewer injuries.
