Newcastle go into this game with two extra defenders available, with Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini having both completed suspensions, though Shola Ameobi is an injury worry. It’s just the second game in charge for Alan Pardew, who made that encouraging start against Liverpool, and who is already insisting loudly that players will not be sold. Newcastle have been quite hit and miss at home, with that rout of Villa and defeat by Blackpool.
Manchester City seem to have that frustrating habit of looking ready to click into another gear and then throwing in the odd poor performance, as they did at home to Everton. City have been very strong away, but are without Kolo Toure. Nigel de Jong does return from suspension, and City missed him. We’ll see if Mario Balotelli cheers up and plays up.
