7/4 Novak Djokovic, 3/1 Rafael Nadal, 5/1 Andy Murray, Roger Federer, 16/1 Juan Martin Del Potro, 33/1 Mardy Fish, 40/1 Bar
So after an extended reak since Wimbledon, the big names have gathered in Montreal for a week of serious quality tennis. The odds reflect the fact Messrs. Djokovic, Nadal, Murray and Federer look a class above the rest of their rivals, with Juan Martin Del Potro seen as the one who might lay a glove on them on his favoured hard court surface.
The seedings inevitably, seems to pair Djokovic with Federer in the semi-finals, and put Nadal up against Murray. In that top half of the draw, the Serb and the Swiss both have one notable obstacle to overcome. Djokovic faces a likely third round meeting with Del Potro and Federer could face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who put him out of Wimbledon, and also beat him Canada when 5-1 down in the final set. If they can get past those matches another semi-final meeting surely looms.
In the bottom half of the draw, the quarters are scheduled to be between Andy Murray and the hard working Mardy Fish, with Radek Stepanek, Mikhail Youzhny and Stanislas Wawrika in that quarter, while Rafael Nadal has interesting matches with Fernando Verdasco and Gilles Simon in his quarter. We still can’t really see either losing.
With Robin Soderling and Fernando Verdasco also out, there are fewer challengers to the elite four than usual.
While we anticipate another Djokovic victory, the best bet here this week is Jo Wilfried Tsonga @ 40/1 with Paddy Power – he has a real chance of beating Roger Federer and you can lay off the bet later in the week. Use ou link to claim a free £20 bet too!
