1/2 Sebastian Vettel, 4/1 Jenson Button, 7/1 Mark Webber, 10/1 Fernando Alonso, 14/1 Lewis Hamilton, 66/1 Michael Schumacher
Sebastian Vettel clearly is the man to beat here, he proved to be dominant in qualifying and it seems no matter what type of circuit, whether fast or flowing, or tight and twisty, he can find a pace in his Red Bull that no other driver, team-mate included, is able to match. While overtaking opportunities are always limited around the Monaco circuit, this year’s race threatens to be different thanks to the many nuances of tyre strategy. This will be the main method of overtaking.
Jenson Button looked as neat and economical as usual in taking a place on the front row, and with Lewis Hamilton feeling he had pole setting pace, even if he ended down in 9th, it looks as if the car is working particularly well. If Button could get ahead at the start, the pattern of the race is changed entirely. Mark Webber, who seemd to have perked up a little recently, with Fernando Alonso, who went well in free practice in 4th place. It’s also intriguing to see old fox Michael Schumancher in 5th. Lewis Hamilton qualified 10th, but will start a place up the grid effectively after Sergio Perez was ruled out with concussion. He looks to be too far back to make an impact.
The precise style of Jenson Button makes him unlikely to hit the barriers and be gentle with tyres, and he’s worth a risk here to upset the Vettel bandwaggon.
