The Miami tennis odds are out for the Thursday matches in the men’s and women’s singles at the 5th major, with Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharpova the star names in action.

The two men’s matches look very straight forward. Rafael Nadal has done very little wrong so far this event, while opponent Tomas Berdych has looked sluggish in the previous rounds, most notably against Carlos Berlocq. It’s very difficult to see Nadal being troubled here by the languid Czech. In contrast, Roger Federer has always found Gilles Simon a tricky opponent. The Frenchman has won 2 of their 3 encounters, and Federer needed 5 sets to see him off in the Australian Open at the start of the year. Although we’d back Federer to come through, just, this is a game to keep your money in your pocket.
In the women’s singles, we’ll be doing the Petko dance for the Andrea Petkovic-Maria Sharapova match. Petkovic has shown good form and real tactical thinking in her run to the last four, most notably in her strategy to defeat Caroline Wozniacki. Sharapova is getting better despite her shoulder problems, but we’ll back Petko to win as she did in Australia. The last match, the all-Russian affair, is another tight encounter with Zvonareva perhaps likely to edge it against the big hitting Azarenka.
