Manchester United pair Anderson and Nemanja Vidic should be ok after flu as they look to continue their curiously unconvicing yet successful start to the season. It’s even possible Michael Owen could get a run out in between hamstring pulls. This tends to be the part of the season they kick on, but whether they quite have the depth of squad to rotate is a moot point. They do have a points advantage and games in hand, and generally are looking effective.
Sunderland might present a decent challenge at their very best, but they look fatally undermined here. Danny Wellbeck can’t play against his parent club, Lee Cattermole is suspended and John Mensah is injured. Remove those three, and you take out a significant spine of the team that will be needed to compete at Old Trafford.
