The whole game seems to revolve around what side Manchester United will put out here – yet Sir Alex Ferguson has already made it clear it will not be a team of rookies. Edwin van der Sar, Dimitar Berbatov, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher, Patrice Evra and Anderson have all been listed as starters and while they may not all be automatic choices, that doesn’t look that bad a side. It will be van der Sar’s final home match before retirement which will be motivation enough for him. United also have their remarkable home record to defend, where only WBA have taken points off them. Add in these various factors and its difficult to see them slacking off. A weaker team won at Hull on the final day two seasons ago.
Blackpool’s form has got better with their win over Bolton and a little 4 game unbeaten run has given them a chance. They are also injury free, and they might be one of the few sides to go to Old Trafford and attack. They also have that very tricky situation where other scorelines might mean conflicting instructions. It could even come down to them having to hold firm and not to concede extra goals to survive. It’s a very complex equation for them to consider. All these factors make United a ridiculously good bet here.
