Oosthuizen, a South African who is a winner this year on the European Tour, did well to produce a 67 in tricky conditions. He made three birdies on the front nine, but had a rough patch early on the back nine, dropping shots at 11 and 13 after birdies at 10 and 12.
He said: “I played well today. We got to the 5th and the rain came down pretty hard. The wind just stopped on 13 and we played the last 5 holes downwind.”
With the wind forecast to increase this afternoon, the South African is in a good position, three shots ahead of Rory McIlroy.
