LIVERPOOL v MANCHESTER UNITED PREVIEW

Liverpool’s deserved defeat at West Ham ended a tidy unbeaten run that had stretched to nine games, but they do have Andy Carroll in contention for an overdue debut after his £35mn debut. His thigh injury has cleared up sufficiently for him to be back in training so there is a chance he could play. Liverpool have had a good record against the top sides this season, and managed to make life difficult for United at Old Trafford before succumbing 3-2 in the end. Liverpool have also won their last two home encounters with Manchester United and if they play in the organised compact way they did at Chelsea they can certainly test them out.

United have lost Nemanja Vidic for this one through suspension, meaning that Wes Brown and Chris Smalling are the likely central defensive partnership. There are also concerns over Patrice Evra. United’s form away from home has continually been a concern this season, with Chelsea edging past them not longer after the loss at Wolves, the ability to grind out results looks a little more questionable. It’s still five wins in the last seven, and with signs of life from Rooney, Hernandez and possibly Berbatov they can get at Liverpool.
