It was a Red Bull one-two in qualifying, with the big loser Jenson Button, who struggled for grip in his McLaren to finish 7th, but the race for the Championship remains as unpredictable as ever.

There is no race in the Championship calender more difficult to predict, but let’s do our best. The track is new, so there’s no past form to go on. The level of grip on the track is low, with the drivers in positions 1, 3 and 5 on the racing line and having every chance of making a significantly better start than the guys in places 2, 4, and 6. Oh – and there is a 60% chance of rain according to the weather forecasts for tomorrow’s race. Having thrown those wild card into the mix, what do we actually know?
The first lap is likely to be one of the most dramatic of the year. The Red Bulls have shown all their pace over the latter two sections of the circuit, with the McLaren’s much stronger on the opening section, including a three quarters of a mile straight section. So Lewis Hamilton and possibly Fernando Alonso have a great chance to attack early on and get a lead, which they then have to try and cling to through the fast corners that make sections two and three. The start to the race can rarely have been so important.
Hamilton feels he has achieved the limits of what his car is capable of in qualifying, so perhaps it will be the Red Bulls who hang on here for the win.
Vettel has the advantage of the clean side of the track, so he’s a fair price at Even Money with Betfred.
