Ireland: 9/5
Uruguay: 6/4
Draw: 23/10
This will be very much an experimental Irish side taking on the Uruguayans, with manager Giovanni Trapattoni having already named a side without established players like Robbie Keane and others. The team is: Westwood, Foley, O’Dea, Kelly, Clark, Lawrence, Fahey, Green, Keogh, McCarthy & Long. That means Shane Long will be the lone striker and Fulham’s Stephen Kelly the captain. It contains a reasonable degree of experience in the Premier League, but a back line that could be vulnerable, and an absence of real defence stretching pace.
Sadly, Luis Suarez won’t be part of the Uruguay squad after picking up a minor injury for Liverpool, but there are still plenty of big names that could be involved, such as Diego Forlan and veteran Sebastian Abreu. The Uruguyan squad is littered with players scattered across Italy and Spain, and they showed their abilities in the World Cup. However, they were beaten by Estonia in their weekend friendly, which makes you wonder about their enthusiasm for the trip. They say they’ll be happier in warmer conditions.
We’ll take Uruguay to edge home here and put that defeat by Estonia behind them. Back Uruguay at 6/4 with Betfred by using our link and you can claim a free £50 bet!
