Ipswich have started this season slowly under Paul Jewell, who faces quite a long term job in getting the kind of success he enjoyed with Wigan Athletic and Bradford City. They suffered a 7-1 humiliation at Peterborough and have now lost four of their five games. Mark Kennedy and Ivar Ingimarsson should be fit, with the Icelander usually an extremely steady centre back. Striker Nathan Ellington has been in good form for the reserves, and has played his best football under Jewell, so a recall might well be likely. Jimmy Bullard may also improve with extra fitness work having not featured for Hull. Jewell does even admit he’s struggling to find the right blend of players.
Coventry’s problems seem to stem from on going ownership challenges leaving little money to spend. Rookie manager Andy Thorn picked up a first league win when they saw off Derby, but they are short on resources and squad numbers – which eventually shows up in results. Striker Clive Platt could return. City have picked up just one draw in four away games, which includes a defeat at Bury in the Carling Cup, but that point was at Middlesbrough. Neither side, in all honesty, looks at their best.
