HENNESSY GOLD CUP PREVIEW

The David Pipe trained Great Endeavour looks to pull of quite a double here, having won the Paddy Power Gold Cup over two and a half miles a fortnight ago. This race is over three and a quarter miles, and there have to be some doubts as to whether or not he can be effective over this longer distance. It does mean that there could be some value in the rest of the field and produce a decent price winner.

Aiteen Thirtythree has exciting form based on a line through Somersby. His performances haven’t always lived up to that and he didn’t look too smart in his run in the RSA Chase at Cheltenham. Wayward Prince was a high class hurdler, who is not overly experienced but he does seem to have adapted to fences well and he has been layed out for the race.

But perhaps the most interesting contender is Michel Le Bon. When Paul Nicholls is drooling about a horse’s handicap mark, it does make you have to sit up and take notice. His prep run was scrapped to make sure he arrived with his current weight of 10st 4lb. It would be a fabulous training feat to produce him to win after two years away, but don’t rule it out.

Wymott also looks at a decent handicap mark.
