HAYE v KLITSCHKO PREVIEW

There are appears to have been one thing on David Haye’s mind in the build up to this fight – to get under the skin of Klitschko, to annoy him, to do something to get him out of his usual zone of quiet efficiency. There are signs he’s done that, and although Haye has probably gone below the belt in terms of what is appropriate to drag up, why discuss morality too much when the two are being paid to hit each other as hard as possible?

Haye’s boxing aim is to find a way to nullify Klitschko’s long, flicking jab and to be able to get him away from the pattern where he uses it to control fights, wear down opponents and then open up in the later rounds enough to cruise to a points verdict. The Londoner’s speed may help him, but his relative size will not.

Both men are capable of producing real power with one punch, but both can be vulnerable when caught. Haye has been knocked down at cruiserweight level, while Klitschko’s defeats, such as that against Corrie Sanders, have come against some non-vintage heavyweights.

We think the most likely outcome is that it will be another cautious but effective display from the man from the Ukraine, with a frustrated Haye finding him so difficult to entangle, as most have.
