GORDON STAKES PREVIEW

Without doing anything other than eating some hay at the weekend, Fiorente suddenly looked a lot more impressive. The reason was the defeat of Workforce by 3-year-old Nathaniel in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes. Fiorente was a runner up behind Nathaniel at Royal Ascot, beaten 5 lengths in the King Edward VII Stakes. That’s form his rivals here can’t get close to.

Slumber, trained by Barry Hills, also has some nice looking form in being beaten thre and three quarter-lengths by Treasure Beach in the Chester Vase, before finishing 3rd in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot, which doesn’t look quite so threatening. Namibian is an interesting type having progressed from handicaps into Group company by winning the Queen’s Vase over two miles, which makes you wonder if he will be happy coming back to a mile and a half.

Hunter’s Light was al out to win a listed race at Hamilton in his last start, which doesn’t look quite good enough to trouble the main contenders, and Highland Castle is making the step up from a nice handicap win and looks to have a little bit too much to find.
