The Austrian still faces some stiff competition though for the New Year’s Day event at Garmisch.

8/13 Thomas Morgenstern, 4/1 Andreas Kofler, 8/1 Simon Ammann, Matti Hautamaki, 11/1 Adam Malysz, 17/1 bar
It’s leg two of the classic ski-jumping event, the Four Hills – how we miss David Vine providing the commentary, with all respect to the good work done on Eurosport. Austria’s Thomas Morgensten was dominant in the opening event and has rightly been installed as favourite to take the second leg. He seems to be in exceptional form, always able to carve out that extra couple of metres as well as getting exceptional style marks.
Andreas Kofler, who has two World Cup wins this year, is second favourite, but Simon Ammann can do well here. He was third on this hill last season, had a good performance in the first leg, and he knows he needs to pull out something spectacular to close the gap already on Morgenstern.
It’s good to see a revival from Matti Hautamaki, who must be considered a threat and it’s a pity there is no Gregor Schlierenzauer to add to the competition, but so far the German jumpers have looked off the pace, with none of the Norweigans striking a blow in their traditional sport.
With a good finish here last year and an eye for the spectacular, back Simon Ammann at 8/1 with Ladbrokes to bounce back with a win. Use the link and you can claim a free £25 bet as a new Ladrokes account holder!
