After grinding out that win over Spain, England are planning to experiment further against Sweden. It looks likely that Danny Welbeck and Bobby Zamora will start and at some stage Daniel Sturridge will get his England debut from off the bench. After a clean sheet against Spain it could also be that the recall of John Terry is a look at a squad player too. Jack Rodwell and Kyle Walker will also be among the starters. They should at least be confident, but it might not be easy for them to all to come together as a cohesive unit for this match – and then, in all likelihood – not play together again.
They also have to find a way to change their mindset from the way they played against Spain. Add all these factors together at it will by no means be easy to conjure up a solid performance, with a backdrop of a Wembley that will be far from full.
Sweden have brought over a reasonable squad, including striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is always an entertaining presence, whatever the debates about his effectiveness. For what it’s worth, Sweden haven’t lost to England since 1968. Olaf Mellberg and Seb Larsson are also players who will be familiar with their opponents.
Given history and a disjointed England, the draw at 5/2 with Paddy Power makes great appeal – use our link and you could claim a free bet of up to £50.
