DON’T PUSH IT GRAND NATIONAL PREVIEW

A comfortable winner in the end last year, Don’t Push It has suddenly become favourite on the eve of the race after a huge weight of public money, probably due to the name recognition of jockey Tony McCoy, who became the Sports Personality of the Year after that win – whatever that award is worth these days.

As ever, the handicapper has punished Don’t Push it for his win and he goes into this year’s Grand National as the top weight, having to concede  precious pounds on his back  to the remaining 39 runners. He carried 11st 5lb last year and has another 5lb to carry, and his age is a little against him, as he is now 11, which is a little past the prime for winners of the race.

The other worry over Don’t Push It is his form. He’s not really show a great deal since his win last season, and though we can take into account he has bee runing over hurdles, you can’t be certain he has his sparkle back. Sometimes a horse is never quite the same after winning here.

All in all, our opinion is that the odds on Don’t Push It are too short and we’d be going against him, with our recommendation Niche Market at 20/1 with Betfred – use the link to back him and you can get a free £50 bet
