It’s not that often that people hope straight out of the World Cup and straight into a move to Ashton Gate.

But England keeper David James, 40, has joined the West Country club on a one-year contract.

His move is among the many in our daily Football Leaague Review.

CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS

James lives in Exeter and has said he doesn’t want to uproot his family, so the deal makes sense for all concerned. Bristol City have also brought in Jamaican centre-back Damion Stewart from QPR and former England u-21 international full-back Nicky Hunt from Bolton.

Heading out of Bristol is defender Bradley Orr, who has agreed a 4-year deal with QPR.

Hull City have sold goalkeeper Boaz Myhill to WBA for £1.5mn, while Leeds United have completed their move for Ipswich defender Alex Bruce.

LEAGUE ONE

A quiet day for moves in League One, with Charlton Athletic signing full-back Simon Francis from Southend United for £35,000 to replace Frazer Richardson.

LEAGUE TWO

Aldershot Town have brought in four more players. The most experienced is winger Wade Small, who was with Sheffield Wednesday and Chesterfield. Jermaine McGlashan arrives from non-league Ashford Town (Middx), while centre-back Clayton Forture, and Aaron Morris, a 20-year-old full back let go by Cardiff, have also signed one-year deals.

Hereford United have signed Oldham winger Joe Colbeck.

Bradford City have signed defender Lewis Hunt, who Peter Taylor knows from Wycombe, plus Louis Moult, a teenage striker who was top scorer for Stokereserves.

And Crewe Alexandra have brought in Polish keeper Bartek Folger on a short term deal with first choice Steve Phillips injured.
