Chelsea are hoping to have defender Alex back with their squad getting back to being close to full fitness. Only Yossi Benayoun is definitely out. While Chelsea’s form has improved their performance against Copenhagen was not really convincing. This might be a harsh judgement when they are 2-0 up from the first leg. David Luiz can come back into the side, but they have only three wins in their last seven games, so it might not be wise to assume everything in the garden is quite as rosy as people want to think.
City could well drop Mario Balotelli – just to make a point after his red card in the game with Dynamo Kiev. City were the side who ended Chelsea’s run last season of 37 home matches unbeaten here, and its very easy to see them producing the tactics that Liverpool conjured up to win here, with a tight, disciplined unit. If Balotelli doesn’t play, Edin Dzeko could come in up front, and City do have the individuals to cause any side damage.
