It seems an age ago since Chelsea were trashing Bolton and Frank Lampard was back to his free scoring ways. Now Andre Villas-Boas side take on Everton, who have proved something of a nemesis for his predecessors. The international break may take some sort of toll on his squad, with David Luiz possibly rested. He’s certainly without the banned Fernando Torres. Michael Essien is also missing. There still remain plenty of powerful options for Villas-Boas, but they can be guaranteed Everton won’t defend with the same generosity as Bolton. However, they’ve not kept a clean sheet for some time, suggesting there is a little work to be done still on team play.
Everton’s strength here is they boast an excellent record against Chelsea, especially in the Premier League. Statistically, no other side gives the Blues such problems. While Jack Rodwell can play, Tim Cahill missed Australia’s matches through injury and is touch and go. His production of goals though, has tailed off recently. Louis Saha could play and with David Moyes men short on goals, that may be vital.
