Charlton Athletic: 10/11
Sheffield Wednesday: 12/5
Draw: 11/4
It’s a much changed Charlton this season under Chris Powell, who has been given the finance to radically re-shape the squad that finished in mid-table. So far it’s worked well as they have only dropped points in a home draw with Scunthorpe in their first five fixtures. Goalkeeper Ben Hamer and former Exeter defender Matt Taylor add experience at the back, and it always seems to be the way that sides who come down to this level from the Premier League figure out what’s needed after a couple of seasons if they don’t bounce back. Paul Hayes adds some goals up front and Dale Stephens is a capable midfielder.
Sheffield Wednesday went for a new striker in the transfer window, when they signed Bury’s prolific Ryan Lowe ad he’s expected to make his debut here. Wednesday have already lost at Bournemouth and Bury in away fixtures this season, and Gary Megson generally likes to make his sides compact and tough to beat, rather than adventurous, away from home. Forward Gary Madine will be their target man, but they may find it difficult to get enough possession here.
