There are a few games being touted here as potential upsets, with the South Coast seemingly a target, with Sunderland heading to a Brighton side who have made a good start in the Championship, and Roy Hodgson’s West Bromwich Albion at Bournemouth. Sunderland are planning to rest some players for their trip to the sea-side, but they should be in a position to show more strength in depth than they did last season after making so many summer signings. Brighton’s neat passing game was tested by Blackpool on Saturday, where they struggled to retain the ball in the latter stages, so we’d steer middle ground here.
In contrast, we like WBA to win at Bournemouth. The Cherries have undergone real changes since their play-off run last season, and so far aren’t looking as strong a side, shorn of midfield players and captain Jason Pearce. While WBA have lost to Man Utd and Chelsea in their opening Premier League fixtures, they have looked good in both games and have some decent strength in depth should they make changes.
In other matches, Aston Villa can easily defy a handicap to beat Hereford United, and Crystal Palace don’t look bad value at home to Crawley, even though the Reds are storming League Two.
