The weekend started off with newly promoted Kaiserslautern marking their return to the top flight in style. In their first home match, they beat Bayern Munich 2-0. Ivo Ilicevic and Srdjan Lakic picked off Bayer twice on the counter attack to leave Marco Kurz’s team with six points out of six and second in the brand new table.
That match set the trend, as there wasn’t a single draw this weekend.
Other teams to get back-to-back wins so far are Hoffenheim, who won 1-0 with a late goal at St.Pauli and Mainz, who pulled off a quite remarkable comeback at Wolfsburg. Mainz were 3-0 down at Wolfsburg, Edwin Dzeko (2) and the returning Diego had Steve McClaren’s side 3-0 up, but Mainz had got it back to 3-3 by the hour and Adam Szalai’s late goal earned them a second win.
Hamburg and Hannover are the other two sides on maximum points. Hamburg won 3-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt after going a goal down, with Ruud van Nistelrooy among the scorers again. Hannover got a 2-1 win at Schalke to leave the men from the Ruhr without a point.
As well as Schalke, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt, there were also second defeats for Cologne and Stuttgart. Cologne lost 4-2 at Werder Bremen, while Stuttgart went down 3-1 at home to Dortmund, who had the game wrapped up at half-time.
Freiburg picked up a useful 2-1 win at Nuremberg while Gladbach scored a 6-3 victory at Leverkusen. Patrick Herrmann netted twice.
