Bayer Leverkusen: 9/4
Chelsea: 5/4
Draw: 9/4
Saturday’s defeat byLiverpool has shown further concerns for Chelsea. The standard analysis is that John Terry is too slow, David Luiz is too errant and that Fernando Torres is never going to score at the same rate he did for Liverpool. The problem appears to be the whether the players can go for the fashionable high-pressing, high tempo game that he uses – and which everyone loves to see Barcelona do.
Nicolas Anelka and Paulo Ferreira are both missing from the Chelsea squad, but there is enough talent left in the side, with Juan Mata one of the new players who is impressing.
Leverkusen boast Chelsea old boy Michael Ballack among their ranks and they sit 7th in the Bundesliga – curiously enough, their away form has been better than that at home, though they were comfortably beaten 2-0 in the reverse game at Stamford Bridge. Lars Bender is perhaps one of their more effective threats, and they may help Chelsea by generally playing one lone striker, with supporting midfielders. It might give John Terry someone to stick to and David Luiz licence to move forward.
It’s difficult to see Chelsea winning here, but it’s also hard to see Leverkusen showing sufficient fire power to win, so the draw at 9/4 with Paddy Power looks the value. Use our link and claim up to £50 in free bets!
