Arsenal: 4/7
Udinese: 11/2
Draw: 11/4
Both sides will have to forget about what they’ve lost and try and focus on who can do the job of winning the tie and banking Champions League millions. Arsenal have a whole host of absentees here though – as well as the finally sold Cesc Fabregas there will be no Samir Nasri and no Robin van Persie, who’s suspended. Tomas Rosicky is also struggling, so it looks as if flair and creativity may be at a premium. Marouane Chamakh, who faded badly after a good start last season, is likely to play up front and it might be Theo Walcott’s pace can stretch defences. Gervinho’s debut offered some encouragement, and lord help up, Nicklas Bendtner is always there as a further option.
Udinese like to sit and counter, and they have lost one of their star performers in the Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez, who has been sold to Barcelona. Top scorer Antonio Di Natale is still there though but he is a small forward, and perhaps more what Arsenal want to deal with than a robust battering ram type. The Italians might well be happy to try and keep things tight and see if they can get that very useful result, the scoring draw.
